Jim Sclavunos is a Half-Greek and half-Italian drummer, percussionist and producer from Brooklyn, New York. He has performed with Sonic Youth, Tav Falco's Panther Burns, Lydia Lunch and was a member of 8 Eyed Spy, The Cramps, and Alice Texas.
Jim Sclavunos played the drums in Sonic Youth in 1982 and 1983. Although Jim has never been a true band member, he is responsible for most of the drumming on Sonic Youth's second album 'Confusion is Sex'. Sclavunos was replaced by drummer Bob Bert.
After Sonic Youth Jim concentrated on playing together with his wife Truus de Groot.
Jim Sclavunos alos played drums with The Cramps for a short while. He joined the band in June 1991 after longtime-drummer Nick Knox had left, and departed again in September 1991, when Nickey "Beat" Alexander was recruited as a permanent member.
Jim Sclavunos, who was memorably described in the pages of The Wire as an "infamous elegant degenerate," has been a key player in Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds since 1994. During that time, Jim also formed his own musical ensemble, The Vanity Set.
Jim Sclavunos is currently performing with his own band The Vanity Set, while still performing with Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds.
