Producer Jason Miles has achieved as much success as anyone could hope to achieve as a jazz composer, arranger, keyboardist and synthesizer programmer, delivering drum and percussion programming for Ivan Lins among others.
Jason Miles’ work has been heard on a variety of top-selling records, including Luther Vandross' Power of Love, Michael Jackson’s HIStory and the classic Miles Davis album Tutu.
In addition to his work with other artists, Jason Miles has released two highly acclaimed jazz albums of his own—World Tour (1994) and Mr. X (1996), which featured stellar line-ups: Herbie Mann, Michael Brecker, Grover Washington Jr., Mark Islam, Janis Siegel, Marcus Miller and Luther Vandross. Keyboard magazine critic Stephen Israel called Miles “one of the best in the business...one of the finest composers around.”
Jason Miles received an Emmy nomination for his musical work on People: A Musical Celebration of Diversity, an animated film on the Disney Channel that featured Vanessa Williams, Peabo Bryson, Chaka Kahn, and other artists. He's had many other triumphs as producer and writer, including two award-winning children's videos: Phylicia Rashad's Baby's Nursery Rhymes and Sigourney Weaver's The Snow Queen. He's been involved in more than twenty projects that have received Grammy Awards and/or nominations.
In February 2000, Telarc released Miles’ ambitious Celebrating the Music of Weather Report, a tribute to the seminal progressive jazz band of the ‘70s and early ‘80s. The project featured a lengthy roster of great artists: Victor Bailey, Cyro Baptista, Jay Beckenstein, Michael and Randy Brecker, Dennis Chambers, Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Gadd, Omar Hakim, Will Lee, Chuck Loeb, Marcus Miller, John Patitucci, Joe Sample, David Sanborn, John Scofield, and others.
Later that same year, Jason Miles followed the Weather Report project with A Love Affair: The Music of Ivan Lins, a tribute to the Brazilian musician/composer of global stature. Guest artists on Love Affair included Sting, Grover Washington, Jr., Vanessa Williams, Chaka Kahn and New York Voices. The Sting track She Walks This Earth Alone (Sobra Rosa) won a Grammy for Best Pop Male Vocal.
Miles and Telarc reunite in early 2004 for the March release of Coast To Coast, featuring an all-star team of musicians—operating as a session supergroup called Maximum Grooves—to explore the organic, improvisational potential of groove-based contemporary jazz in Coast To Coast.
Built around the rhythm section of Jason Miles, drummers Steve Ferrone and Gene Lake, and bassists Will Lee and James Genus, Coast To Coast features a host of stellar guest players hailing from one end of the country to the other: Gerald Albright, Herb Alpert, Jay Beckenstein, Michael Brecker, Russ Freeman, Jeff Golub, Jeff Kashiwa, Wayman Tisdale, Derek Trucks and many others.
