In 1985 James Lilja replaced drummer Jim Benton in a punk band called Manic Subsidal, a Californisch combo featuring Dexter Holland. Soon after they renamed themselves in The Offspring.
In 1987 Lilja decides to depart and Ron Welty joins The Offspring.
