James Andrews started his music making at the age of nine in his local brass band, Playing cornet until getting hooked on drums and percussion age 11 on this James committed himself and has never looked back, up until age 17 James played and gained experience playing with many local bands before being spotted by the Tredegar band and found himself having a very happy and successful 3 year spell in the band playing at all major brass band contests including the European's, Nationals, British Open, Masters, Scottish Open on numerous occasions at each being in the prizes.
During his time in Gwent Valleys James Andrews came under the direction of some of the movements finest conductors such as Garry Cutt, Howard Snell, Richard Evans, Steve Bastable, to name a few also during this James was fortunate to be involved in many Radio broadcasts and cd recordings whilst performing at some of the countries major concert halls such as the Royal Albert hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Festival Hall London, St David’s Hall during this time James maintained his commitment with National youth brass band of Wales and the Greater Gwent youth Brass Band.
At the end of 2004 James Andrews resigned his position as principle percussionist of the Tredegar band his talents started getting noticed by other top brass bands and James found himself guesting with many of the countries finest bands in Concerts, cd recordings, and contests and worked with bands such as Foden’s Richardson, Flowers band, Buy as you view Cory band, Parc & Dare.
James Andrews has committed himself to concentrating on Brass band playing and Is currently playing for the Polysteel band but is always willing to guest for bands right across the country.
