Hena Habegger (1967, Ticino) plays drums in Gotthard. he names Vinnie Colajuta, John Bonham and Trilok Gurtu as his favourite drummers. Hena Habegger's biography in his own words:
I was the youngest of 4 kids and from very early on I started “playing” the drums on anything I could find. At 9 years old I started my career as one of a few drummers in a marching band in my village.
Soon afterwards I played the bass drum in the local music society and was even occasionally allowed to play on the small drum at practises.
But I wanted more. I dreamed about a complete drum set but until I could make my dream come true I had to make do with empty boxes of washing powder to bang around on.
At the age of 10 I reached my goal and for 20,-- sfr a month my mum hired a drumkit. After hours of practice I finally got my own kit.
At 16 I had my first shot at trying to play with other musicians. Two years later 4 friends and I started our first band called “Pharao” . We didn’t manage much more than playing a few local gigs and putting together a demo. After a short tour of Germany with the “ Swiss Rockstar of 1987”, my first taste of success, I packed my bags and went to Los Angeles.
I studied for one year at the Musician Institute of Technology before I had the opportunity of being a session drummer for a Swiss band called “Krak”. It was their first album and mine.
Months later I packed my bags again and after a brief stop at home moved to south Switzerland to start playing with “Krak” who had in the meantime changed their name to “Gotthard”.
