Harry van Meurs (Rotterdam, 1953) studied percussion at the Rotterdam Conservatory with Willem Heesen. He also attended the composition and instrumentation class of Dutch composer Theo Loevendie. Already in the first year of his study, at the age of 18, Harry van Meurs was regularly invited to play in the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.
In 1972 Harry van Meurs made his debut as a percussion soloist with the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest Holland in a piece by Maki Ishi, conducted by Hiroyuki Iwaki. One year later he was appointed percussionist with this orchestra. He performed with all major Dutch orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
Harry van Meurs gives masterclasses and workshops on orchestral cymbal playing and is preparing a complete method for orchestral percussion instruments. As a composer he writes merely chamber music. In 1996 Harry van Meurs' 'Adagio' for bass trombone was succesfully premiered in Germany.
