Hans Zonderop (Leiden, 1964) studied at the Utrecht Conservatory with Michael de Roo and Keiko Abe. He specialised in orchestral percussion and already during this study he performed with ensembles as the Residentie Orchestra The Hague, the Netherlands Ballet Orchestra, the ASKO-ensemble, the Netherlands Wind Ensemble and the Amsterdam Percussion Group (NSA). In 1988 Hans Zonderop was appointed as percussionist of the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest Holland. In January 2002 he succeeded Henk de Vlieger as leader of the percussion section.
Since 1984 Hans Zonderop is connected to Circle Percussion, where he specialised in playing Japanese drums. With this ensemble he made a successful concert tour through Japan in 1986, together with Keiko Abe and the famous Japanese percussion group Kodo. With the Netherlands Dance Theatre and Circle Percussion he made tours all over the world in performances of the ballets 'Kaguyahime' on music of Maki Ishi and 'Falling Angels' on music of Steve Reich.
As a soloist Hans Zonderop participated in 'Manhattan Concerto' by Siegfried Matthus, 'From me flows what you call time' by Toru Takemitsu and 'Saint François d'Assise' by Olivier Messiaen, with the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest Holland.
Hans Zonderop is teacher at the Utrecht School of the Arts and the Royal Conservatory of The Hague in snare drum and orchestral percussion.
