was Floyd Marcus started playing in Jeckell and the Hydes, but is best known as drummer in The 1910 Fruitgum Company - one of the first bands to define the happy, hooky pop sound that blew up in the late 1960s, and perhaps originators of the term "bubble gum pop". Recalls Marcus: "I wrote a song called 'Bubble Gum World' for our first album. I believe someone, some reviewer coined the term from that song."
Nowadays a sextet, Floyd Marcus is still performing with 1910 Fruitgum Company.
Factoid: Floyd Marcus' father was a drummer and vibraphonist, and twin brother of Floyd's uncle Sol Marcus, a be-bop jazz pianist who wrote 'Til Then' and 'Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood'.
