Ekendra Das is a multi percussionist who has been playing for over 20 years. Raised in the fertile musical soil of New York City, Ekendra played with and/or recorded with Harry Belafonte, Vernon Reid, and Kashif. Ekendra also played on special projects with Dizzy Gillespe, Roberta Flack, and the Jazz Mobile All Stars.



In 1979, Ekendra went to Africa where he traveled, studied, and played for eight years. During this period, his spiritual and musical interests also took him to India. Later trips took him to Central America and into studies with Cuban and Brazilian percussion masters, and eventually to his current studies in classical percussion with master percussionist Luis Garay.



All of these life journeys and experiences have shaped the unique sound of Ekendra Das. Closer to home, Ekendra has played and recorded with many of the top music performers in the D.C. Metropolitan area and is a man in demand for live performances and instruction.
