David Phillips, the founder of A & R Marketing Ltd, is a professional marketeer with twenty years of multi-industry experience( eight of which have been in the music industry working for Pearl drums and his own company A & R Marketing Ltd ).
David graduated in 1989 with a degree in Business Studies and Marketing. His career highlights include working at Nintendo where he helped to launch the now iconic “Gameboy”. He then joined the top publishing company Emap staying there for over 5 years working on a diverse range of magazines including Today’s Golfer and Match magazine. His major successes included signing sponsorship deals for Match magazine with Mars, Dixon’s and Coca-Cola and helping to launch the golf magazine “Fore”
In the late 90’s David was appointed Brand Manager for Cannon cookers, the UK’s number one cooker brand, with UK sales of over £35million. Shortly after joining, he was promoted to UK brand manager for GE appliances.
In 1999 David joined Pearl Drums as UK & European Marketing Manager with responsibility for Artist Relations. David managed a large artist roster and provided touring support for visiting international acts. New artists signed include Joey Jordison ( Slipknot ), Mike Chiplin ( Lostprophets ) and Michael “Moose” Thomas ( Bullet for my Valentine ) to name but a few.
David started his company A & R Marketing in 2005 and has built up a roster of world class clients including the top drum company Drum Workshop, Loud Technologies whose brands include the market leading bass brand Ampeg, and leading UK guitar amp manufacturer Orange. A & R Marketing work with a number of festival organisers including the International Guitar Foundation, the Scottish Drum Day, Drummer Live and have been appointed to handle publicity for the 2008 London International Music Show.
David has always been a keen photographer and began taking photographs for his clients to use in their advertising and catalogues. His photography has been published worldwide in books, on-line and many drumming publications.
