I am a professional drummer/percussionist of fifteen years. I work well with clicks, backing tracks ect... have toured the US several time, and would like to do a European tour soon.

Hailing from Houston, Texas, David Cates is a professional drummer and percussionist of fifteen years. He has played on forty cds, and is well versed in Rock, R&B, and Drum & Bass. David does quite a bit of session work and has toured the US several times with several different bands over the years.



Biography:

David Cates is a drummer who has been playing drums since the age of ten, and began lessons at twelve. Like many free spirited minds he would pave his own path to becoming a drummer sought after by singer songwriters throughout the country. “When I was growing up I always knew that I wanted to perform. I would take my parents garbage cans to the front porch, and begin playing the songs, and rhythms that I heard in my head”. Not everyone appreciated this, but my parents saw my passion, and stuck by me”. I was playing with quite a few little bands in high school, but it was not until during college that I had a taste of what real success might look like. The band was Ten Times Big, a unique blend of rock, folk, and alternative sounds that brought them to the cusp of stardom. David has played with, and toured with Dini Bin/Mercury records artist Eddie Elliott on tours with Shawn Mullins, and David Wilcox. He has also worked in a band format once again with the Christian band Grain of Truth whose latest self titled record was produced by famed producer Ryan Greene. David has also worked with the ever unique Jon Prophet, a songwriter, and artist that brings back the days of what was defined as “rock star”.



David's diversity ranges from R&B soul to Christian Rock/Pop, and most recently he has played with national artists Robbie Seay, and Aaron Hale. David has also worked with acclaimed producer Ralph Patlan who has produced Megadeth, and various national artists. I have been greatly influenced by drummers like Steve Jordan, because they are patient, and lay down exactly what the song calls for with a dash of personality. I also dig Quest Love of Erica Badu, and Roots fame, and Steve Gadd…a cat that can cross the boundaries, and make everything sound musical. There are numerous other guy’s that I dig, but I am about playing the tune, and giving the artist exactly what he, or she wants.” I have become very adept with backing tracks, and clicks, because they improve the drummers ability to help drive the ensemble, and one’s own ability as a player”. David is also an avid percussionist well adept in Middle Eastern, and African drumming.
