Darren King is the drummer for the band Mutemath. He also played drums for the band Earthsuit for a short time.



He was born as Darren Charles King on June 25, 1982 and grew up in the small town of Marshfield, Missouri (population 6,000). He graduated from high school in the year 2000.



Darren King is well known for intense drum beats that showcase a vast amount of energy. In concert he is often seen with his trademark headgear: a pair of headphones gaffer-taped to his head for foldback.



As a teen Darren King was playing in a traveling ministry in rural Missouri. One of the more enjoyable things those evangelical years provided was a letting go of musical inhibitions on the drum set. "They wouldn’t put you behind one of those sneeze guards. You could play as loud as you wanted... for hours."



Darren King's setup includes an enviable vintage Rogers kit and a set of Zigmar drums, an off-brand from Japan.
