As one of the partners in percussion behind superstar Gloria Estefan, Daniel Lopez has distinguished himself with some of the most exciting rhythm work in pop music today.
Daniel Lopez can be heard on six tracks on Ms. Estefan's release Destiny, where he joined fellow percussionist, Edwin Bonilla to lay down some great tracks. "Those tracks represent a good mix of pop and rhythmic movement," he says.
Daniel Lopez has also recorded with Albita, Nestor Torres, and Julio Iglesias. Daniel also has also enjoys playing on soundtracks, most recently for the movie, Still Big/Still Little. His performance credits are just as impressive, having performed with such notables as Cachao, Jon Secada, Arturo Sandoval and Juan Pablo Torres. He is currently touring with Gloria Estefan and Ricky Martin.
Daniel Lopez grew up in a musical household in Cuba, his father was a sax and bass player. While his first love while growing up was the bass guitar, at the age of 16 he enrolled at La Escuela Nacional de Instructor de Arte (ENIA), where he studied music with an emphasis on percussion.
Daniel Lopez's first influences were the fantastic Cuban drummers like Changuito and Anga. He has been in the United States for several years, attracting immediate attention in the Miami area. "I saw him play once, and recommended him for the gig with Gloria right away," says fellow percussionist Edwin Bonilla.
