Berlin based jazz drummer Charly Weiss was born as Hans Günther Weiss on February 2, 1939.
In Berlin, Weiss had his own band called Charlie Weiss Quartet. Then he moved to Düsseldorf and joined Kraftwerk.
Later Charly Weiss met Helge Schneider, Christoph Schlingensief and Udo Kier. In the seventies Charly and Helge founded the Schneider / White Duo, also known as El Snyder & Charly McWhite.
After his short but influential cooperation with Kraftwerk, Charlie Weiss and Helge Schneider toured Germany, mostly for small club gigs.
1988 saw the release of the film "Mother's mask", a result of further cooperation with resident artists in North Rhine-Westphalia. Charlie Weiss plays the drums for the soundtrack.
Charlie Weiss was never really a virtuoso drummer, but his unique personality was for many other artists a source of inspiration.
