"And The Doors, oh my god I'm a huge Doors fan. Some of my favorite more recent albums, there's a girl named Nellie McKay on Colombia Records. She put out an album last year that's kind of like jazz and all different kinds of music on there it's really good. I like Meshuggah's album 'I,' I think that was a great album. It was totally awesome. I don't know, I can't even name them all. There's so many I like. I love music."Brent Masters and the other members of The Agony Scene have a studio in Tulsa at the house that he and guitar player Steve live at. Asked how they write their albums, Brent answers:
"We go in our home studio and we just pick up our instruments and just start playing. If things don't click, and we won't write anything at all, we'll just not give up. We'll say 'see you guys tomorrow' or we'll go do something else, but for the most part we just play together and play something and if it sounds cool then I'll start feeding off them, and it'll be almost like a, I hate to use the word jam session, but that's the only thing I can really think of. We really just feed off each other like that, so that way we don't write a part that goes after something else and be like 'oh, well this fits here.' Instead, everything we write is like if it doesn't feel perfect right there, and if it doesn't feel like it naturally should flow into that then we just don't do it, so that's how our writing works pretty much. It's kind of like us just [improvising] things, and just feeding off of things that are the strongest coming out of us."
