Mr. Bogdan Bacanu started his studies with Peter Sadlo at the Mozarteum Academy of Music. His active soloist life started in 1993; playing with Peter Sadlo and Gidon Kremer at the Lockenhaus Music festival. In 1996 Bogdan Bacanu obtained the "Keiko Abe" prize at the World competition in Stuttgart. During the same year he founded his ensemble "Prisma percussion" Salzburg with a formidable innovative repertoire and performed with them in Austria, Germany, France, Italy,Romania, Japan and Spain.
Bogdan Bacanu is now supported by the Dutch marimba maker Adams. In August 1998 he was invited by K. Abe at the World Marimba Festival in Osaka and performed together with significant names as Nancy Zeltsman, Katarzyna Mycka, L.H. Stevens, Robert van Sice, Gordon Stout & William Moersch. Between 1997 and 2002 he performed at times on his own, at times with orchestra and at times with his ensemble and has toured in Norway, Holland, Switzerland, Denmark, Romania, Spain, France, Turkey, England, Japan, Canada, Australia, Cyprus and Greece. Aged twenty seven he is Professor of marimba at the famous "Bruckner Conservatory" in Linz and guest professor at the "Princeton Marimba festival. He gave masterclasses in Madrid, Vienna, Linz, Graz, Istanbul , Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Bucharest. Famous composers such as Hannes M.Schalle have written marimbaconcerti for Bogdan, premièred with the Bucharest Philharmonic Orchestra In May 1998.
Bogdan Bacanu evokes a special own style mainly performing own arrangements of famous classical works such as suites of Bach, guitaroncerti and or works for lute. His first CD marimba d'amore will soon be released showcasing a selection of works by Keiko Abe. Profiling himself Internationally, he's described by press as one of those musicians who can not be compared to any others.-" He's different, strong, spiritual, even violent, and yet incredibly romantic, sensitive & sensual.
