Born as Benjamin Scott Folds in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on September 12, 1966 this multi-instrumentalist is widely acclaimed as frontman of the musical group Ben Folds Five.
Ben Folds became attached to playing the piano at age nine, but during high school he also played drums and bass.
In 1990 Ben moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where he ended up working as a session drummer.
Folds attended the University of Miami's esteemed School of Music on a percussion scholarship, but dropped out with one credit to go before graduating.
In 1994 Ben Folds moved back to North Carolina where he formed Ben Folds Five featuring Darren Jessee on drums.
Folds' first solo release after the breakup of the band was 'Rockin' the Suburbs' in 2001, on which he played nearly all the instruments.
More recently Ben Folds has produced The Dresden Dolls' Amanda Palmer's first solo album, 'Who Killed Amanda Palmer?', released in September 2008. Ben also plays several instruments (including drums) on the album.
