André Charlier is born in Verviers, Belgium. He starts drumming in 1978 and studies at the Jazz Seminar in Liège during 1979 and 1980, followed by lessons from Ralph Humphrey, Steve Hougton and Joe Porcaro at the Musician Institute in Los Angeles during 1985 and 1986.
Next, between 1986 and 1989, André Charlier participates in numerous bands alongside Steve Houben, Michel Herr, Guy Cabay, Philip Catherine. He accompanies the singer Maurane between 1989 and 1991.
André Charlier plays in the ORJL Big Band (with bandleader Barry Altchul) and François Mechali in 1991-1992, and Christian Jacob (pianist of Maynard Ferguson) in 1992-1993. André Charlier appears with Scott Henderson at Festival de Vittel in 1992.
André Charlier becomes more and more active on the French scene, and gets hired by French violinist Didier Lockwood. He played extensively with him and appears on the CD "Round about Silence" (1998).
In 1994 Charlier's main activities are divided between In Folio, the Didier Lockwood Quintet or Trio and the Onztet de Violons.
In 1998 André Charlier tours as a trio with Fabrice Alleman and French keyboard player Benoît. In 2001 Charlier releases the album "Gemini".
André Charlier currently lives in France. He has been teacher at CMCN in Nancy since 1990 and does different workshops at Conservatoire Royal de Lyon, in Malmédy, Vittel, Spa, etc.
