Albert "Beto" Garcia Jr. is drummer and cofounder of the Texas Jazz Festival. Trumpet was Beto's instrument of choice in his school band. That was until the band's drummer was sick one day and the director insisted he play drums.
Though his father hadn't given him lessons, Garcia was able to play the song. Albert Garcia has played drums for decades since.
He cofounded the Texas Jazz Festival in 1960. In 2010 Beto Garcia played drums with his grandsons, Michael and Jon Perez, and two great-grandsons in the group Generations at the 50th Texas Jazz Festival.
