Alain Eskinasi is a producer/composer/musician from Amsterdam who since the mid 80ties has worked on more than 40 releases.
Eskinasi became interested in synthesizers, samplers and other electronica early by artists like Brian Eno,Herbie Hancock,Joe Zawinul,George Duke. But keyboards is not the only instrument he plays...He plays guitar and percussion as well, plus is an expert in working with midi sequencer and audio software ...This made him especially attractive as an in house /staff producer, working for record companies and studios around the world.
He lived in the USA for a while where he was a member of the smooth jazz band 3rd Force. He worked as a producer on projects with African live-acts such as Sotokoto and Senemali and has participated on numerous house and remix projects.
He joined DJ Graham B. and Brazilian singer and an actress Viviani to form Electric Coco.
Credits of Eskinasi include: creating the grooves for Craig Chaquico´s(Jefferson Starship) "Acoustic Planet" #1 in Billboard ´95, Grammy Nomination and the 95 Bammy (Bay Area music award), plus one of the tracks on this album was selected by NASA for the Space Ark project, which orbits Earth since 1994. So Eskinasi is one of those few musicians who can say: my grooves are out of this world!
Eskinasi's project Brainscapes(Cyberoctave,Virgin USA) releases his 3rd album "2001" in the fall 2000.This album is a dance-ambient album, combining intricate drum and bass,Triphop, worldmusic and his trademark ambient style. Earlier albums were "Brainscapes", recorded originally in 1992, re-released in 1995 on the CyberOctave label, and the 1997 release "Chakradancer", who both established Eskinasi firmly in the field of World-Ambient music.
Eskinasi was also part of the african SotoKoto Band, a recording project of Oko Drammeh, for HigherOctaveMusic, who has three CDs on the Higheroctave label: "Gumbay Dance" in 1992, "SotoKotoBand" in 1993and "Mandingo Beat (1994). Here,"playing keyboards and programming drumtracks, he developed a definite taste for polyrythmic grooves and exotic musical scales.
Together with Kilian and Natale written and recorded Professor Trance's "Shamans Breath" for Island records. This is a megapercussive dance album, combining the neoshamanistic filosofy and of Professor Trance (Frank Natale)
with the loops, drums, keyboards and assorted samples of the team Kilian-Eskinasi. It was produced by Chris Blackwell(Marley) and Joe Galdo(Gloria Estefan).
Together with William Aura, Eskinasi worked on "In the Mix", remixes of existing HigherOctave artists,
wich won the N.A.I.R.D award in 1997 in the USA. The track "The process is continuous" of that album even got high up the Top-5 in Italy in 1996.
Eskinasi delivered drum and bass remixes, together with Pim Kilian and 3rd Force for Les Nubians, a Chart-topping duo from Virgin France, and for 3rd Force itself.
In 1997 Eskinasi, Aziz Paige (electric sitar, guitar) and Richard Hardy(sax, flutes) formed the trio "Shapeshifters", a recording project to combine modern trance music with world music. They released their first album, "Elemental Dance" independantly. This led to a release this year for their debut (but actually second) album "Shapeshifters" on the Soundings of the Planetlabel in the USA.
