Quarter note triplet lesson.
For this lesson we're looking at a basic way to phrase quarter note triplets -- as a jazz comping pattern. We start by extracting the quartet note triplet from a bar of simple 8th note triplets. To do this, simply accent all the notes with the leading hand. I have done against a bass drum and hi hat pattern to give it a jazz context. Once that is playable, simply remove all the notes that are being played in the non- leading hand. This gives you the phrase we are going to use to comp with.
Once we have this together, we can add in the jazz ride pattern in the cymbal and try to combine the quartet note triplets in the snare drum, against our 2 and 4 in the hats and the quarter notes in the bass drum.
