Nick J's 'Public Display of Infection' series. The kick and ghosts are kinda faint in this one, so rock it in headphones if ya got 'em. This was tracked the same night as "Bulletproof" (same Mr. Bungle tee hehe), in June 2011. For some reason, the camera took on a redder tinge than BP - how apropos!
On a related note, recently I hung with Nick at Oceanic Studios, where he's tracking his entire second album; I already did all the drums and percussion back in October of last year. It's sounding incredible and I couldn't be happier and more anticipatory for my audience to hear it. Watching Nick 'do his thing' is a real treat; it's just a whirlwind of chops, taste and musicality clobbering your senses - in an enjoyable manner, of course!
Notes:
1:17 - china complements a nasty chord
1:20 - 13" hats complement a high note
1:45 - timing the pedaling of the 13" hats on the middle triplet partial here was tough
1:59 - 2:00 - crash crescendo
2:00 - 2:17 - subtle crash riding; the following section is a bit more aggressive
2:29 - 2:39 - difficult section
2:44 - 2:48 - somewhat of a regular backbeat to cap off the excitement of the bridge
3:30 - beginning of this embellishment complements the guitar
