Last night the 2008 Europe Music Awards (EMAs) winners were announced in Liverpool, England. Britney Spears wasn’t on-hand to accept, but she won the two major awards: for \'Blackout\' as album of the year and as best act of 2008.

Drummer Shannon Leto and his band 30 Seconds To Mars also scooped up two awards: as best rock act and best video (for their song A Beautiful Life).

Kanye West was voted as ultimate urban artist, something he has waited for a long time. In 2006 Kanye bum rushed the stage after he was nominated but eventually ended empty-handed.

Metallica was nominated several times but did not win any award. British acts Duffy, Leona Lewis Coldplay went home empty-handed too, despite being nominated in three categories each.
Sir Paul McCartney was honoured with the ultimate legend award, which was presented to him by U2 lead singer Bono.
The ex-Beatle is listed in the Guinness World Records as the most successful musician and composer in pop music history.
