Sanderson revealed the injury in a video message shared with fans on October 23. The drummer explained that the accident happened while he was enjoying his passion for the outdoors, although he did not disclose further details.
The injury means Sanderson will be unable to play drums during the tour's fall leg. However, he will remain part of the band's live lineup, contributing keyboards and backing vocals while he recovers.
Shaun Foist Steps In Behind the Kit
Foist, known for his work with Breaking Benjamin, has been brought in to cover the drum parts during Sanderson's absence. The band is continuing its North American tour with I Prevail and The Funeral Portrait as support acts.
Sanderson will miss the shows in Houston, San Antonio and Rogers, Arkansas, around the time of his surgery. He has expressed his intention to return to the stage as soon as possible, initially continuing with keyboards and backing vocals.
Despite the setback, the arrangement allows Three Days Grace to keep the tour moving while Sanderson focuses on his recovery.
Supporting 'Alienation'
Three Days Grace are touring in support of their 2025 album 'Alienation'. The record marks a significant chapter in the band's history, featuring both original vocalist Adam Gontier, who returned in 2024, and Matt Walst, who took over lead vocal duties in 2013.
Sanderson has been the band's drummer since its early days and is also known for his backing vocals, keyboard work and distinctive open-handed drumming approach.
For now, fans will see a different drummer behind the kit, while Sanderson remains involved in the performances. The band has not announced a definitive date for his return to drumming.
