Phil Collins: a second Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction
Phil Collins is undoubtedly one of the most recognisable drummers to receive this year's honour. Already inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2010 as a member of Genesis, Collins now receives individual recognition for his career as a solo artist.
Before becoming one of the biggest pop stars of the 1980s, Collins established himself as an exceptional drummer. He joined Genesis in 1970 and became the band's lead vocalist following Peter Gabriel's departure in 1975. His combination of musicality, feel and technical ability made him one of the most distinctive musicians of his generation.
His drumming became particularly influential through his solo work. The unmistakable gated-reverb sound of 'In the Air Tonight', with its legendary drum break, remains one of the most recognisable moments in popular music history. The sound helped define an era of studio production and influenced countless drummers and producers.
Collins' career extends far beyond the drum kit, with more than 150 million records sold worldwide as a solo artist and with Genesis. He has won eight Grammy Awards, six Brit Awards, two Golden Globes and an Academy Award. As a defining voice of his era, Collins has influenced generations of musicians, and his songs continue to resonate on radio, in film, and across streaming platforms. Artists including Adele, Taylor Swift, Brandy, Pharrell Williams, Questlove, Justin Timberlake, and Lorde have cited him as a major inspiration.
His 2026 induction recognises his achievements as a solo performer, adding another chapter to an already remarkable Hall of Fame story.

Iron Maiden: Nicko McBrain and Clive Burr recognised
For Iron Maiden, the 2026 induction is a particularly significant moment. The British heavy metal pioneers have finally been recognised by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame after previous nominations in 2021 and 2023.
The induction includes ten musicians from the band's history, among them two drummers: Nicko McBrain and Clive Burr.
Nicko McBrain joined Iron Maiden in 1982, making his recording debut on the landmark album 'Piece of Mind' in 1983. His powerful playing, distinctive swing, technical precision and unmistakable personality became an integral part of the band's sound for more than four decades.
McBrain played on some of Iron Maiden's most celebrated albums, including 'Powerslave', 'Somewhere in Time', 'Seventh Son of a Seventh Son' and 'Brave New World'. His contribution to the band's extensive catalogue helped establish him as one of heavy metal's most recognisable drummers.
In December 2024, McBrain announced his retirement from touring with Iron Maiden after more than 40 years behind the kit. He played his final show with the band in São Paulo, Brazil, although he remains involved with Iron Maiden outside its touring lineup.
The other Iron Maiden drummer included in the induction is Clive Burr, who played with the band from 1979 to 1982. Burr performed on the first three studio albums: 'Iron Maiden' (1980), 'Killers' (1981) and 'The Number of the Beast' (1982).
His powerful, energetic playing was an important part of the band's early development and helped establish the rhythmic foundation of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Burr passed away in 2013, aged 56.
The full list of Iron Maiden musicians included in the 2026 induction also features singers Paul Di'Anno, Blaze Bayley and Bruce Dickinson; bassist Steve Harris; and guitarists Dennis Stratton, Dave Murray, Adrian Smith and Janick Gers.
More drummers among the 2026 inductees
Iron Maiden and Phil Collins are not the only names of interest to the drumming community.
The 2026 class also recognises musicians from Joy Division/New Order and Oasis, both of which have important drumming histories.
Stephen Morris - Joy Division/New Order
Stephen Morris is included as a member of both Joy Division and New Order. His distinctive approach to drumming, combining acoustic playing with electronic rhythms and drum machines, helped shape the sound of two hugely influential British bands.
From Joy Division's post-punk recordings to New Order's pioneering combination of electronic music and rock, Morris has played a central role in the development of alternative music.
Alan White and Tony McCarroll - Oasis
Oasis' induction also brings recognition to several musicians who were part of the band's history, including two drummers.
Alan White joined Oasis in 1995 and played on some of the band's biggest records, including '(What's the Story) Morning Glory?' and 'Be Here Now'. His playing helped define the band's sound during its commercial peak.
Tony McCarroll was the original drummer and performed on the band's debut album 'Definitely Maybe' (1994). His contribution belongs to the early chapter of one of Britain's most successful rock bands.
