French performer, educator and composer Jacques Delécluse and famed Grateful Dead drummer, Mickey Hart, will be honored this November at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) in Indianapolis, IN.
Jacques Delécluse A noted percussionist, educator and composer, Jacques Delécluse revolutionized the teaching and composition of modern percussion music. At the hub of the modernism movement in France, Delécluse’s musical influence stemmed from his work with other noted composers such as Pierre Boulez and Olivier Messiaen.
In 1959 he was appointed timpanist of the Orchestre de la Societe des Concerts du Conservatoire and eventually held principal positions after the orchestra reformed as the Orchestre de Paris. Delécluse taught percussion at the Conservatoire de Paris for more than 30 years and wrote many percussion works, including “Twelve Etudes for the Drum,” one of the most often referenced books in percussion education today.
Now at the age of 76, Jacques Delécluse has retired from the Orchestre de Paris and the Conservatoire and continues to teach, judge and compose.
Mickey Hart The Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart has advanced the presence and expanded the popularity of global percussion music throughout the world. He pushed the traditional Rock and Roll musical boundaries by introducing complex and multi-rhythmic improvisations and non-Western musical elements when performing with the Grateful Dead and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.
Mickey Hart has won two Grammy awards; in 1991 he was awarded the first Grammy in the Best World Music Album category for \'Planet Drum\', and his Global Drum Project collaboration with Zakir Hussain, Sikiru Adepoju and Giovanni Hidalgo won Best Contemporary World Music Album in 2008.
Mickey Hart advocates and explores the concepts of rhythm and the history of music through authoring books and supporting The Endangered Music Fund to further the preservation of sounds and music from around the globe. Currently, Hart performs and tours with The Dead, a rejuvenated band formed by former members of The Grateful Dead.
Hall of fame celebration Both Delécluse and Hart will be honored at PASIC, the world’s premier drum and percussion event, which takes place November 11-14, 2009 in Indianapolis, Indiana at the Indiana Convention Center and Westin Hotel. Inductees will be celebrated at a Hall of Fame Celebration reception on Friday, November 13.
