Bassist Peter Hook has announced New Order\'s break-up during an interview with XFM Satellite Radio. In November 2006 Hook claimed that the group called it a day, but drummer Stephen Morris disputed this.

The break-up isn\'t the band\'s first, but according to Hook, this time it will be the last.
In 1980 New Order was birthed from Joy Divison\'s ashes after frontman Ian Curtis had commited suicide. In 1983 New Order scored a huge hit with their song Blue Monday.
Record Close to seven and a half minutes in length, Blue Monday is one of the longest tracks ever to chart in the UK. It is recognised as the biggest selling 12\" single of all time, staying in the British Top 200 for over five years. The song brought New Order\'s recordlabel Factory Records on the brink of bankruptcy. The artwork for the cover was die-cut to make it resemble a floppy disc. The sleeve production process meant that the company actually lost money on every sold copy of the single.
In 2004 New Order teamed up with Kylie Minogue, resulting in Can\'t Get Blue Monday Out of My Head. The remix is featured in the British gangsterfilm Layer Cake. The song Blue Monday is also featured in video games FIFA 2005 and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories. More recently the track was used for a Mars commercial and in a remake of the film \'The History Boys\'.
Filmmuziek New Order\'s final work is probably the score for Anton Corbijn\'s motion picture \'Closer\'. The group re-recorded several Joy Division songs for this film about Ian Curtis\' life and works.
