Every Winter NAMM Show many new musical products make their debut. Some of these inventions are brilliantly simple yet so effective, one cannot help wondering what took so long to come up with it. Take the Kickport for example.

For many years a great many speaker designs feature a bass reflex system: ports that use the energy created by the movement of the drivers to reinforce bass.
The port generally consists of a tube mounted in the front (or rear) side of the loudspeaker. This allows extending the deep end of the system\'s frequency response. To put it in other words: the loudspeaker can reproduce bass in a better way.
Samuel Millender of Future Percussion Concepts decided to apply the same principle to a bass drum and invented the Kickport.
Basically it is nothing more than a plastic, hollow cone you put in a hole in the front head of your bass drum, but it definitely focuses the sound and adds \"more kick to your kick\". No wonder the Kickport was getting a lot of interest at Winter NAMM 2009.
According to Samuel, the Kickport will retail for less than $40, so there\'s quite a chance that it will soon become standard.
