I am deeply shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of my friend, Inspiration , and hero ....... George Duke. I first saw him play with Cannonball Adderly when I was in High School in St Louis. He had taken Joe Zawinul's place (Joe had started up Weather Report with Wayne Shorter) and I went up and spoke to him as he was unscrewing the legs from his Stage 73 rhodes. At that time, the Rhodes was the newest & greatest thing and we talked about it briefly. Later when I moved to LA I got to see him play at the Lighthouse with his trio with Alphonso Johnson & Chester Thompson (he was also with Frank Zappa at the time) and his music was off the chains!!!! What an amazing & inspiring cat he was and he put out some of the greatest music we'll ever hear. We'll miss him a lot but know he's now with his dear wife, Cannonball, Miles & Joe Z. Thank you George for all you've done to make music & the world a better place!!

I don't know what to say....... I am totally devastated by the news of my dear friend George Duke. An incredible person, musician, coffee buddy......He gave big love to everything and everyone in life! I used to always look forward to doing sessions at his place with his great coffee. We had many great time. Dinner at Cimino's in Montreaux with Claude Knobbs, George and Corine, laughing our asses off about passed performances and passed escapades on the road. I'll NEVER forget that. Recording the "Gospel According to Jazz" with Kirk Whalum. George brought down the house....... I loved him, he was family to me. A major loss to the world of music. My heart is heavy with grief. (Sigh) Rest In Peace my Brother. You will always be in my heart.

Very sad news about George Duke. In the mid 80's I got to meet him as our company distributed an instructional video (vhs !!!) that he produced with his long time manager Herb Cohen. He was a gentleman and a monster talent and will be missed. Spent many hours listening to Duke/Cobham music.....
RIP George

Dude, I'm quite sad this morning. I first learned who George Duke was at the age of 9-10 yrs old... The legend Ramsey Lewis had special guest come on his Jazz show on ETV every Sunday night. George Duke, Lee Ritenour, Marcus Miller, & Ramsey Lewis did a quartet Jazz set and it was sooooooooo MUSICAL!!!!!!!! As I was writing this I actually found a link of them all together.... my kid memory.....
