As a drummer, Bunchy worked with many legendary New Orleans musicians including Dave Bartholomew, Allen Toussaint, Lee Dorsey, James Booker, Dr. John, Aaron Neville, and Lloyd Price. In 2005 Bunchy started performing regularly with trumpeter/vocalist Jeremy Davenport’s band.

As an actor, Bunchy\'s credits include Nicolas Cage movies The Hungry Rabbit Jumps and Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, the Halle Berry project Monster’s Ball and A Love Song for Bobby Long, starring Scarlett Johansson and John Travolta.

He also appeared in the off-Broadway musical Staggerlee in New York and served as the drummer and assistant musical director for Carl Walker’s production of Where the Girls Were.

Bernard \"Bunchy\" Johnson is survived by a son, Renard Johnson, and a daughter, Cherise Johnson Luter; a brother, Charles Prosper; and four grandchildren.
