Despite rumours that Thomson has hung up his sticks for good, he will still get behind the drum kit for the band. However, Paul Thomson has also taken on a new position as third guitarist for the group on some of the band’s new songs.

During these tracks, the drumstool will be filled by Franz drum tech Andy Knowles

It\'s not the first time Paul Thomson will play guitar with Franz. Singer/guitarist Alex Kapranos, guitarist Nick McCarthy and bassist Bob Hardy had been rehearsing at McCarthy\'s house for a while when they met Paul Thomson at the end of 2001.

Thomson, a former drummer for the Yummy Fur, felt like playing guitar instead and this was the initial position he took in the band. Eventually, McCarthy and Thomson switched to guitar and drums.
