The Drum Workshop, aka DW, has a limited specialty in their Performance Series: a kit and snare made from Birch. A deviation from the company's protocol in these drums that are normally made of North American Maple. For a limited time, these drums are now in production, probably until the stash runs out.
The Limited Edition Performance Birch Kit is a 4-piece set with 8 x 10" and 9 x 12" mounted toms, a 14 x 16" floor tom, and an 18 x 22" bass drum. The tom and bass drum shells are made using 8-ply birch with 45 and 60-degree back cut bearing edges.
The hardware that comes with the kit includes Suspended Tom Mounts (STM), quarter-sized turret lugs, and graduated triple-flange counter hoops. The bass drum is completed with matching Birch hoops and low-mass claw hooks. Of course with the DW True-Pitch tuning tension rods.
Performance Series Birch snare drum Also a 100% Birch shell for the first time. The specs of the Limited Edition snare are:

10-ply Birch shell
60-degree back cut
DW MAG throw-off
3P (3-Position snare toggle) butt plate
3mm triple-flanged counter hoops

True-Pitch tuning tension rods
and a DW drum head by Remo

How DW Drum are made Drummerszone filmed how drums are made at the DW-Drum Workshop factory. We recorded the entire drum making process from veneer to the actual drum. Including the most important stages of DW drum manufacturing and the company's own checks and balances on absolute sound control. Click here to check out the entire article, or watch the video below.
The DW Drum Workshop Factory Tour Your host is Brent Wetli, Manager of Customer Service at DW. The drum intermissions you hear in the video are chops by Thomas Lang playing his DW kit at his home studio in Los Angeles. Many more specialties on that are coming soon! The Josh Freese 'flight tickets-wrap' in the video was for a 6-piece drum set to feature many of his saved airline tickets.
