French rock veterans Noir Désir, founded in 1980, have decided to call it quits. Drummer Denis Barthe announced the split after guitarist Serge Teyssot-Gay said earlier this week he was pulling out of the Bordeaux-based group.

\"Noir Desir is finished\", Denis Barthe says, adding that he\'s speaking on behalf of Lead singer Bertrand Cantat and the group\'s bassist.
Denis Barthe continues to drums and sing in The Hyènes, a group he founded in 2005.
Bertrand Cantat made the headlines for all the wrong reasons in 2003 as he was convicted of beating his actress and girlfriend Marie Trintignant to death in a hotel in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius. A Lithuanian court jailed him for eight years, but the singer was released on parole in 2007.
Cantat\'s ex-wife Krisztina Rady, with whom he had two children, hanged herself at her Bordeaux home in January this year.
