Istanbul Mehmet's new Legend Dry cymbal series could suffice with just one drum kit at the 2019 NAMM Show. A beautiful drum kit made by A&F Drum Co and played by Istanbul Mehmet-artist Rick Latham. Bulent Akbay shows and demoes the four new cymbals of the Legend Dry series, and we added Rick Latham's drum solo as well in the video. Rick's full session is the second video with this article.
The 'Legend Dry' cymbals from Istanbul Mehmet The new series is a small line of just four cymbals. The sound however is much bigger. And while the definition is ridicuously straight forward, all of the cymbals have their own character and feel and match perfectly with each other.
Bulent picks out the 22" ride because of its deep hammer marks that also create the dry sound and the shorter decay - a characteristic you want in a ride cymbal. Really good to see is that Istanbul Mehmet is going for the 15" hihat straight away in this cymbal line. The first choice of many drummers nowadays is that bigger chick on the hihat.
Rick Latham plays the Legend Dry on an A&F drum kit Rick Latham wrote the standard for funk and linear drumming: 'Advanced Funk Studies,' which is in Modern Drummer magazine's list of the 25 greatest drum books of all time. Being one of Istanbul Mehmet's primary artists, he sat down behind this raw steel kit from A&F Drum Co kit and hit it off. A&F Raw Steel kits are light weight and made from exclusive raw steel shells, patented Raw Brass Lugs/Hardware, Whiskey Maple Hoops, and Remo Heads. Yes, it all happens at NAMM!
