One of the eye-catchers at the Winter NAMM Show 2017 was the Alex van Halen Limited Edition Ludwig snare drum. The huge demand for it made Ludwig decide to produce 200 instead of the initial limit of 100. On the first day of NAMM the first 100 were already sold out. The fastest sellout in Ludwig history. It comes in an ATA Anvil road case lined in blue velour and a signed Certificate of Authenticity by Alex and his drum tech John Douglas, who is also responsible for the artwork on the snare. Additionally a custom 24 karat gold Van Halen drum key is added, plus each drum is signed on the inside by Alex Van Halen himself.
More details include the 14x6.5" raw Aluminum Supraphonic shell, Brass hardware, die-cast hoops, P-186 Millennium strainer, 42-strand snare wires, special brass AVH badge and the Ludwig Keystone badge. The design is the same as Alex van Halen's touring snare. Fun detail is that the certificate of authenticity states: "This drum has been blessed by the Reverend Al." The drum is not cheap, though: the list price is $1,699.
To completely satisfy your drum voyeurism, we added the video of the Alex van Halen 2015 touring kit that was on display at NAMM 2016. Just as incredible as this new treasure in drum making.
