Drum Slices began as a showcase for selected students from various schools under the team’s coaching. It is now a much sought-after platform for these students to experiment and showcase their skills. As part of the series, an end-of-year camp is held for those keen to participate in the concert.
The camp is used as a brainstorming and training session where students are encouraged to share ideas guided on how to compose and create music and visualise performances.
Focus on rhythm The focus of this year’s concert is on rhythm. Rhythm is one of three basic elements of music, and the most important. It is combined with melody and harmony to create beautiful music.
With two years’ experience, there is now more refinement and greater energy in the students’ creativity and performance.
Rhythm Ride explores rhythm through drumming, with percussion instruments and the gamelan. Theatrical movements and elements also add to the flow of the concert.
