Unlike 2004, when R&B sensation Usher won all his show-leading four nominations, the 2005 American Music Awards did not know one big winner. This year several lucky artists took home more than one award.

The 33rd edition of the annual Awards took place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California on Tuesday, November 22. An overwiew of all winners:
Green Day, also voted Favorite Artist in the category Alternative Music, took home an award for their album \"American Idiot\"
It was also trophy time for Black Eyed Peas, who were voted Favorite Band in two categories: Pop/Rock and Rap/Hip-Hop.
Destiny\'s Child was voted Favorite Band in the category Soul/Rhythm & Blues and won a Favorite Album award for their \"Destiny Fulfilled\".
Tim McGraw won two awards: Tim\'s \"Live Like You Were Dying\" was voted as Favorite Album, Tim himself was voted Favorite Male Artist in the category Country.
Other winners include Shakira, who won as Favorite Artist in the class Latin Music, and Kelly Clarkson in the category Adult Contemporary Music.
In the category Soul/Rhythm & Blues, Mariah Carey won an award as Favorite Female Artist, R. Kelly was chosen as Favorite Male Artist.
The category Pop/Rock saw Will Smith and Gwen Stefani win an award as Favorite Artist.
Brooks & Dunn were voted Favourite Duo in the category Country, Gretchen Wilson won an American Music Award as Favorite Female Artist in the category Country.
Eminem and Missy Elliot both won an award as Favorite Artist in the category Rap/Hip-Hop.
The winners of the 21 awards in various categories are selected by the public.
The American Music Awards were created by showman Dick Clark in 1973 as an alternative to the Grammy Awards; they honor achievements in popular music and the recording business. The AMA\'s are one of four annual major US music awards shows, the others being the Billboard Music Awards, the Grammy Awards, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
