"In the face of cancelation reports and other gossip, Motörhead is delighted to announce it will headline Germany's Wacken Festival (the biggest metal fest in the world) for 75,000 fans on Friday August 2nd. The band look forward to comprehensively kicking everyone's ass, just as they always do."
However, at Wacken the band barely got through half an hour of the set before their gig had to be stopped due to Lemmy's health.
Motörhead played only six songs, including drawn-out pauses between tracks and an unusually early solo spot, presumably to allow Lemmy enough time to gather his strength to perform.
After guitarist Phil Campbell finished his solo, there was an eerie silence. Lemmy was able to return for one more song and then left the stage immediately after, never to return.
Festival organizer Thomas Jensen then walked on stage and explained the Motorhead set was over. He later commented:
"Lemmy gave everything he's got to play an amazing live show. He's keeping well, but the temperatures and circumstances lead to the point that continuing the show would have lead to a loss of quality. We are very happy and proud that Phil Campbell, Mikkey Dee and particularly Mr. Rock 'n Roll himself, Lemmy Kilmister, played at Wacken Open Air 2013 and that they did everything humanly possible to play this gig."
