Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift are the biggest winners of the 2012 MTV European Music Awards (EMAs). The 19th-annual MTV EMA ceremony was broadcast live from the historic Festhalle in Frankfurt, Germany yesterday (November 11, 2012).
Rihanna and Taylor Swift both topped the nominations with six and five nods respectively. But Taylor turned out ot be the big winner: the 22-year-old American singer-songwriter took home three awards as Best Female, Best Live and Best Look, leaving Rihanna empty handed.
Justin Bieber earned three awards in the categories Best World Stage, Best Pop and Best Male. The Canadian pop star couldn't make it to the ceremony and congratulated his fans via a tv screen.
Drummer Josh Devine and his band One Direction won two awards for Biggest Fans and Best New Artist. They were neither present and thanked the fans via a video message.
Carly Rae Jepsen won an EMA awards as Best Song for Call Me Maybe.
Pop sensation Psy, king of Gangnam, was awarded as Best Video for Gangnam Style. It made him the very first South Korean artist ever to win an MTV Award.
Linkin Park was awarded as Best Rock Act, Lana Del Rey as Best Alternative Artist and Nicki Minaj as Best Hip Hop Artist.
Model Heidi Klum served as emcee for the event while Guy Code stars Andrew Schulz and Lil Duval hosted the US Broadcast for MTV2.
Acts to take center stage for a live performance included The Killers, No Doubt and Muse.
