\"We\'ve been fans of each others work over our first four years, and we share several common goals, particularly the desire to bring high quality instruments and accessories to UK drummers at a price which is affordable by everyone. The timing is right for us to collaborate on some new designs, and to increase the recognition and presence of these world-beating drums from a British manufacturer.\"
Whilst Highwood will continue to focus on the trademark bespoke kits which have made their reputation, eDRUM\'s input will allow the development of a number of new lines. The original catalogue remains made-to-order, but a wide range of standardised options will allow Highwood kits and snares to become available through traditional outlets. This reduction in customisation will not mean a reduction in quality, as all new Highwood lines will be made to their usual exacting standards. The first of the new products available under the eDRUM/Highwood partnership will be the Hammer snare range, which is also Highwood\'s first foray into metal-shelled drums.
Hammer snare range
This line has been developed at the request of Highwood\'s customers, who wanted a metal drum to compliment their maple and birch snares. The end result is two distinct steel drums featuring black nickel-plated shells that are available in a fully-hammered 14\"x5.5\" model, and a partially-hammered, double-beaded 14\"x6.5\" version.
The fully hammered 5.5\" is an all-rounder, with a dry, crisp, complex sound which excels under microphones, whilst the deeper, 6.5\" partially-hammered drum adds a very powerful punch to those characteristics, dominating in a loud, live environment.
For steel drums, they have a particularly full sound, and the wide, shallow snare beds and 42 strand brass snares provide a level of articulation and sensitivity which even stack up to orchestral playing.
The drums are priced at £229 (inc UK VAT) each, and are available to order immediately with first stocks due in February 2008. For further details, please contact eDRUM on sales@edrumonline.co.uk - retail inquiries are particularly welcome.
