Paiste announced the new PST7 and PST5 cymbals a few weeks before the Musik Messe in Frankfurt. Drummerszone drove off to Germany to check the new series from the Swiss cymbal makers. In two videos, Christian Wenzel, Artist Relations Manager with Paiste, demos all the cymbals and talks about the reasons why Paiste launches these affordable additions to the PST cymbal line. Both new Paiste Sound Technology series are made from CuSn8 Bronze, probably better known as the famous '2002 Bronze'.

PST7
The new PST7 cymbals come in three weight classes: light and thin, medium and heavy. Also added are three effect cymbals: two china's and a 10" splash. According to Paiste, the thin cymbals are ideal for drum and music schools with their sensitivity and soft feel. The medium weight cymbals find their purpose best in pop, rock and dance like music. While heavy weights are best suitable for classic and hard rock. In the video you'll hear what they sound like.

PST5 Cymbals & Cymbal sets
The PST5 were introduced in 2005, and completely renewed in 2014. PST5 is considered to be the entry level cymbals from Paiste. That is also the reason why you can buy them in the different sets listed below. Perfect for starters in an affordable price range.

A very nice detail in the PST5 cymbal line are the 14" Sound Edge Hats. Paiste introduced the Sound Edge hi-hats in 1967. The unique idea behind it is that the bottom cymbal has a corrugated edge to prevent air lock when closing the hi-hats. It was first introduced in the famous Formula 602 series. Later, Paiste produced the (then still) patented Sound Edge in many more series. (Source: The Cymbal Book, by Hugo Pinksterboer.) The PST5 cymbals are made in Paiste's German facility.
