Longtime Nashville drummer Martin Parker has died at the age of 63. After he suffered a severe stroke last month, Martin had been recuperating at the Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville. That's where he passed away early Thursday.
According to Martin's son Quinton Parker, Family and friends had held constant vigil at the drummer's side after the stroke, encouraging him to recuperate.
But in the end it turned out he wouldn't improve.
Martin Parker was born in 1952 in Edenton, North Carolina. He lived an amazing life, traveling all over the world doing what he loves most: playing music. In the process of doing so, he touched the lives of many.
Martin's reputation began to grow back in the late 1960s playing drums with high school bands. He showed his musical skills by playing pizza boxes and tennis shoes as easily as drums.
The drummer eventually moved to Nashville where he played with country stars such as Ricky Scaggs, Vince Gill, Earl Scruggs, Patti Loveless, and Allison Krauss, to name a few. More recently he drummed with Out 'n the Cold.
