Darius Minwalla, drummer for Seattle power pop outfit The Posies for fourteen years, has died at the age of 39. He passed away yesterday (May 21) in Vancouver BC, his hometown since 2008. The loss is as unexpected as it is untimely. A cause of death has yet to be established.
Darius started playing drums with the Posies in 2001, replacing previous sticksman Brian Young. His first album with the band was 'Every Kind of Light' in 2005. They later issued 'Blood/Candy' together in 2010 and had maintained an off-and-on live schedule since.
Prior to his time in the Posies, Darius had recorded with Jon Auer, Ken Stringfellow, Super Deluxe and Tiz, and had also performed with Harvey Danger and the Long Winters.
Last month, Darius had been touring Japan as part of former Stranglers member Hugh Cornwell's backup band.
