This song is called OC/DC and is the first video from my forthcoming album EEPS.
The story behind this song...well...
I wanted to write something with completely out-of-tune instruments in combination with composed rhythm. So I picked the instruments in my collection that were easiest to tonally 'f*ck up' and then put them into structure.
I first played an organized drum track, with having the message and parts of the song already in mind. Then I played and overdubbed a detuned 12 string guitar, an out of tune bass and then the keyboards, which I played with a slightly shifted pitch wheel as well.
The goal was to really not pay attention to any chords or tonality in relation to each instrument. Funnily enough, after that 'chaos' was composed, and even by being totally out of tune and harmonically wrecked, it sounded like an almost in tune song. However, if one's interested in playing along or recreating this tune you'll probably find out pretty quick, that due to the missing tuning, this song is basically 'uncoverable'.
So after that 'organized' chaos was recorded, I thought about what topic to pick lyrically. And I went for pretty much the opposite topic of the musical, and tonal 'imperfect' concept, and wrote about OCD mannerisms, calling the song OC/DC.
Man, during the recordings I was laughing my ass off. Then the next step was to present that odd piece to Scott Schorr, label manager/co-producer of the EEPS album. And well, I honestly gave that track a 50/50 chance to make it on the album.
I thought that maybe I'm going to get a response like, "what the fuck is that... Are you kidding me?...".
But Scott called back immediately and seemed completely stoked about it. He basically said that he never heard anything like that and thinks we should make this the single and that he can't stop listening to it.
So here we go....OC/DC, a truly 'different animal', isn't it ;-)).
