The childhood home of Jerry Allison, drummer in Buddy Holly's band The Crickets, was officially dedicated with a public ribbon-cutting ceremony yesterday, September 6th, in Lubbock, Texas.
Jerry and the other Crickets, bass player Joe B. Mauldin and singer Sonny Curtis, were in Lubbock to share their memories of the house.
Reportedly it took a year and $148,000 to renovate the home where Jerry Allison and Buddy Holly wrote the hit That'll Be the Day.
The house was also transported last year via a flatbed truck to to the grounds of the Buddy Holly Center in Lubbock, the hometown of the legendary 1950s singer.
Don Caldwell, director of the Buddy Holly Center, stressed that "no city money, no tax dollars" were used on the Allison house project.
A grant was given by the CH Foundation. But much of the credit belongs to home builder Art Cuevas, who offered to help restore the house for the city and place it at the Buddy Holly Center.
