Tom Kollman, former drummer for progressive hard rockers Edwin Dare and brother of guitarist Jeff Kollman (UFO, Glenn Hughes, Chad Smith's Bombastic Meatbats), was shot and killed by a police officer in Fort Myers Beach, Florida.
The 48-year-old drummer was shot and killed by a deputy early Saturday morning, December 15, at the 16000 block of San Carlos Boulevard.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office says a deputy pulled Tommy over near Love Boat Ice Cream Shop in Fort Myers around 3:30 am when, for some reason, shots were exchanged and Tommy died.
"It's a tragic end", says Tommy's brother Jeffrey Kollman.
The Lee County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit is investigating the case. Further details are being withheld for investigation reasons.
According to FortMyersBeachTalk.com, Tom Kollman was arrrested on misdemeanor charges of "loitering (prowling)" and "drug-equipment possession (and/or use)" on November 28, the day before his 48th birthday. He was reportedly let go from his job at Mermaid Lounge the evening of his death.
Edwin Dare released three albums in the 1990s and had moderate success in U.S. and Japan from 1992 to 1995. Jeff Kollman dismantled the group in 1995 and relocated to Arizona for two years before moving permanently to Los Angeles.
