Shannon has also announced to step back from The Black Dahlia Murder "to persuit some other things in life".

The drummer released a video statement in regard to his absence from recent band performances.

Among other topics, he talks about fill-in drummer Alan Cassidy, whom he calls "an outstanding drummer". Shannon also talks about his future plans:

"I have a few current projects, including Adam Dutkiewicz from Killswithch Engage and George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher from Cannibal Corpse. I'm planning on tracking drums in January."

He's also opening a tattoo shop with his wife in Richmond, Virginia, probably early 2013.
