In the 1980s Levon was invited by fellow drummer Ringo Starr to join the ex-Beatle's first All-Starr Band tour.
Levon Helm is survived by his wife Sandy, daughter Amy and two grandchildren. The fondly remember:
"Levon has loved nothing more than to play, to fill the room up with music, lay down the back beat, and make the people dance! He did it every time he took the stage..."
