Troy Miller is a multi-talented drummer and composer and, although still young, his reputation has already reached the other side of the Atlantic where he has toured extensively. He initially started playing drums in a family band and, as a teenager, reached the final of the BBC 'Young Musician of the Year' competition. After graduating from the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Troy started playing with Jean Toussaint and soon after, Soweto Kinch with whom he has just recorded a second album. Amongst many of the artists that Troy has worked with are Roy Ayers, Roachford, Jocelyn Brown, Marcus Printup, Guy Barker, Julian Joseph, Gary Bartz and many others.
He is also a member of the group Killer Shrimp, whose album 'Sincerely Whatever' received rave reviews, with his drumming getting particular praise. Troy's style has often been compared to the American drummers Ralph Peterson and Jeff 'Tain' Watts and his time at Guildhall (where he now occasionally teaches) has undeniably had a hand in his writing and sound which combines jazz, gospel and elements of classical music.
Troy's new album, recorded in New York, features veteran UK and US talents including Jean Toussaint, Jason Rebello, Eric Revis and Marcus Printup as well as long standing partners, Michael Olatuja, Femi Temowo and Karim Merchant. The Prague Philharmonic Strings also feature on the CD plus the vocal talents of stunning singer/songwriter Eska Mtungwazi and rising soul talent, Xantone Blacq.
