KOCH Records is proud to announce the signing of world-renowned trumpeter Jon Faddis. Faddis’ debut for KOCH Records is titled Teranga (Senegalese for hospitality) and will be released on June 6, 2006.
Jon Faddis’ stellar quartet featuring David Hazeltine (piano), Kyoshi Kitagawa (bass) and Dion Parson (drums) is joined by special guests Alioune Faye (sabor), Abdou Mboup (djembe & talking drum), Russell Malone (guitar), Gary Smulyan (baritone saxophone), Frank Wess (alto flute) and Clark Terry (flugelhorn & vocals). Faddis fronts his band and his guests on trumpet, flugelhorn and vocals.
Teranga is an album filled with originality, subtlety, joy and astounding musicianship. Teranga contains nine tracks, eight of which are originals written by Faddis exclusively for this group of master musicians.
Bob Frank, President of KOCH Records, says, “We are honored to be a part of Jon Faddis’ legacy. Jazz music has such a rich past, dynamic present and thanks to Jon, a promising and exciting future. This release is also an important part of KOCH’s future in straight-ahead jazz. “
David Wilkes, VP of A & R for KOCH, adds, “Over the years, we have distributed some of the finest in jazz music for other labels and we have a magnificent catalog of recordings. We are looking forward to working with Jon and presenting what we know will be a great record that will become a mainstay in jazz for decades to come.”
Faddis remarks, “I appreciate KOCH’s ongoing commitment to jazz and their enthusiasm in sharing the vision in making this record. Although I have appeared on numerous albums with big bands and other ensembles, Teranga is the first CD with my quartet since 1991.”
